Pulse and Water

Reading: Dan.1:8-21

In these days and times when we see many ministries and ministers rises and fall, we should be very much concerned with what it takes to last in God’s purpose. I find it very challenging and inspiring reading of Daniel: “And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus” or as 6:28 puts it: “So this Daniel prospered (advanced) in the reign of Darius, and the reign of Cyrus the Persian”. What this meant is that Daniel remained relevant, he did not pass with the passing of time.  Few men and ministry remain relevant after say 50 years of ministry. The Lord has told us He wants to set up a feast of fat things that will feed nations and generations for many years. It is important we know what this means and what it takes.

As I meditate on this, it becomes obvious that Daniel was sustained, he could stay fresh and relevant because of what he fed on. Had Daniel fed on the dainties of the king, he would have pass with the passing of the kingdom. Daniel was sustained by simple pulse and water. May we be weary of the king’s meat. We live in a time of so much “high sounding non-sense”, they seem popular and carries an aura of false spirituality, it is quite intimidating. But ask our fathers of old, they have seen all such things in their time, and today it is no more. The ministries that have remained relevant are those who have stayed on the simple word of God and prayer. We must be weary of all these “sensational party dishes” that don’t last and that cannot sustain men for life.

It is the Lord’s desire that we are sustained in His purpose, and this can only be as we feed on him through His word and prayer. To the Jews he said: Your fathers ate manner and died. I AM THE LIVING BREAD (Jn.6:47-51). May we not be seduced from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Give me PULSE AND WATER.
