Jesus was going to plant His church in the enemy’s territory. We must understand what the church means, it is the seat of the government, what you call senate today. He is confident that the gate of hell (the Greek use the word “Hades”; not just a place but as a principality in charge of death) shall not prevail against it. The reason is obvious, the church is founded on men with a revelation of who Jesus is. The church is founded on the revelation of Jesus. They were going to proclaim a gospel that have a basis in their lives. Something to which their lives were conformed to (sea Acts4:19-20, 2Peter 1:16-19. 1John 1:1- 3)
No sooner had the church been born, than we see the confrontation of the gates of hell. We see the visions of Daniel crystallizing in reality. The devil has done his worse to the physical Israel, but not before God achieved His purpose with that nation. The stone has been cut off from that mountain without hand, the rod of Jesse have come forth and with him the fruit of Resurrection: the church. Now the kings of the earth rages (Ps.2)
